Farewell Secretary Jesse Robredo

We've a lost a friend in our struggle for peace in Mindanao. Secretary Jesse Robredo, the Interior and Local Government Secretary of the Philippines, was killed in a plane crash recently. Secretary Robredo attended the Consolidation for Peace (COP5) program organised by our office early this year. He was pictured above in a blue barong looking at OPAPP Secretary Ging Teresita Deles giving a token of appreciation to the Governor of Penang, Tun Dr Rahman Abbas, during the opening dinner of the COP5. Looking on were the Vice Chancellor of USM, Prof. Dato Omar Osman (in red batik), HE Ambassador Malaya (seated next to Sec. Robredo), the Philippines Ambassador to Malaysia, and yours truly (also in red batik). During his speech at the COP5, he reaffirmed the committment of the Philippines government to achieve peace in Mindanao. His sincerity was well received by all those present. We hope that the good work done by Sec. Robredo will be carried on and the momentum for peace in Mindanao will continue, even if he has moved on. Goodbye and happy travel, my friend.
